The Algarve has grown immensely in popularity over the past 10 years and it is easy to see why. With culture, great food, cheap prices and friendly people in abundance, the Algarve has become the staple destination for travellers young and old. Aside from the popularity with backpackers, the surf scene has thrived over the last decade also, with and again it is easy to see why.
The region's limestone cliffs are dotted with idyllic beaches and surf spots, from mellow sandbars to hollow point-breaks and heavy slabs. In short; something for everyone. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned veteran, the Algarve offers some top class waves for all levels.
On its most South-Western point Portugal has the luxury of offering both a South-facing coastline and a much more consistent West-facing coastline also. This means that the Algarve catches swells from essentially all directions and when the predominant West swells are too big, they wrap around to the South coast. Also, when the winds are blowing the wrong direction on one coast, you'll find it will be blowing off-shore on the other!
The surf schools are well spread out across the region with locations on both the South and West coast, meaning that there are places away from the bustle of touristic towns like Lagos, or right in the middle of it! Again, something for everyone.
All the above, the fantastic climate and temperate water make going on a surf trip in the Algarve a no brainer! Send us an enquiry with your needs and we will help you find the right place for you!
