Weather in Portugal

The weather in Portugal

Is it sunny in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall?

The Algarve probably has the best climate in Europe for anyone looking for warmth and sun on their surf trip. With 300 days of sun a year, the Algarve summers start mid May, and end mid October. May, June, September and October are often warm enough to wear shorts. Even in the winter months, you will find yourself in a t-shirt on a terrace in the sun with an ice-cold beer after your winter surf on the south coast, at beaches like Porto do Mos, Meia Praia, Zavial, Burgau, praia da rocha, and more. Out of the high season is a perfect time to get away with your friends or family as the flights are cheap, the sun is out and the waves are great.

Besides the great surfing conditions and the sunny climate, the Algarve is a great place to just relax and chill. The Portuguese locals are some of the friendliest people we have met, and on top of the local community, the West Algarve, including Lagos, Praia da Luz, Portimao, Ferragudo, Burgau, Salema, Vila do Bispo, and Sagres attract lots of travellers, backpackers, surfers and young families. If you’re new to traveling solo – don’t worry, hostels are honestly the best place in the world to make new friends and travel buddies.

What is the food like in Portugal?

The local cuisine of Portugal and the Algarve.

You may not be familiar with the Portuguese cuisine yet, but we’re sure you’ll love it! The Portuguese cuisine is one with lots of fresh fish, caught on small fishing boats along the Portuguese coast and served in local restaurants the same day. A freshly caught ‘Dourada’, or ‘Robalo’ grilled with a bit of olive oil and salt, is absolutely amazing. You can try it with Batatas Fritas (French fries) and salad, a ‘jarro de vinho verde’ (a jug of green wine) and a Portuguese Bica (espresso) afterwards. Going out for dinner is very affordable in the Algarve. Twenty euro a head will get you a full meal with desert and drinks included. Contact us for the best restaurants in the Algarve, we are happy to share our favourite dinner spots with you!
